Meta has brought its conversational AI assistant, Muse, to the iPad via a dedicated application. According to TechCrunch, this tablet rollout occurred merely a month following the assistant’s initial mobile debut on iPhone and Android devices.
Sensor Tower market intelligence figures cited by TechCrunch indicate that Muse has surpassed 6.6 million installations since its September 8 release. The assistant is designed to help users manage personal and professional workflows by linking external accounts. Individuals can connect platforms to oversee email, calendars, bills, and meetings, alongside performing actions like securing reservations, purchasing items, and setting personal targets.
To facilitate these capabilities, Meta relies on integration tools referred to as connectors. The iPad launch coincides with an expansion of these available integrations. New additions include small business applications such as Asana, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, QuickBooks, GitHub, Klaviyo, and Zoom, alongside Meta ad accounts, Notion, and Granola.
Furthermore, Meta has integrated several retail partners—including Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair—enabling the assistant to execute purchases on behalf of users. However, TechCrunch notes that these automated shopping features can occasionally encounter obstacles when commercial websites misidentify software agents as malicious bots and block their access.
To address website blocking, Meta revealed plans on Tuesday to collaborate with industry peers on an open standard. This proposed framework would allow personal AI agents to properly authenticate themselves to corporate networks, helping organizations differentiate beneficial automation tools from disruptive scrapers.
Why It Matters
The rapid deployment of Muse to tablet hardware highlights how quickly major technology firms are working to position conversational agents as central computing interfaces rather than mere smartphone novelties. By achieving an iPad presence within weeks of its mobile introduction—a timeline that contrasts sharply with Instagram taking roughly fifteen years to reach the same platform—Meta demonstrates an aggressive strategy to capture user mindshare in the crowded consumer AI market.
At the same time, the friction between automated agents and retail websites points to an emerging structural hurdle for the entire tech sector. As AI assistants increasingly perform autonomous transactions across the web, the tension between bot protection systems and helpful consumer agents will likely intensify. The push for an open authentication standard suggests that widespread adoption of agentic AI may depend heavily on cooperative cross-industry protocols, rather than standalone app development alone.
