Apple is preparing to introduce its long-anticipated smart home central hub under the name HomeView, according to details reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and highlighted by Engadget. Set to be unveiled during the tech giant's upcoming Welcome home event, the device is designed to act as a Siri-driven command center for managing connected home environments.

The name HomeView reflects its focus as a voice-first smart display managed primarily through Siri interactions rather than functioning like a traditional tablet experience. Hardware designs reportedly include a countertop variant featuring a metal speaker base available in space gray, silver, starlight, and pink finishes. A second wall-mounted option will be offered exclusively in space gray and silver. Unlike standard Apple hardware, the HomeView will not feature access to the App Store and will run only a restricted suite of native Apple applications.

Rather than relying solely on first-party software, Apple is placing heavy emphasis on third-party hardware integration through the Apple Home app, Siri, and linked devices. To support this push, Apple has partnered with LG to produce equipment such as smart doorbells, thermostats, and outdoor security cameras. In Europe, the company is collaborating with Schneider Electric SE. These co-developed accessories are slated to launch under the Apple Home Collection banner, with LG accessories expected to ship later this year at the earliest.

Alongside the HomeView hub, Apple's event is expected to feature refreshed core home devices. These include an updated HomePod mini powered by an S10 chip and a new Apple TV equipped with an A19 processor. While the HomePod mini and Apple TV are anticipated to hit retail shelves and begin shipping on October 30, the HomeView hub is expected to follow in mid-November.

Why It Matters

The reported strategy behind HomeView indicates a distinct shift in how Apple approaches the smart home market. By foregoing an App Store on the hub and leaning heavily on partner hardware through the Apple Home Collection, Apple appears focused on creating a streamlined, voice-first ecosystem rather than competing directly as a tablet maker in every room. Collaborating with established manufacturers like LG and Schneider Electric could help Apple quickly expand its smart home ecosystem across international regions, though restricting the device's software capabilities may also limit customization for users who prefer standalone apps.
